We are getting real close to that time of year again where we all get to play Santa Clause and help bring a Christmas to the people in our community. 🎅
As all of you know , and those of you volunteering with us for the first time will get the chance to find out this year; that we really couldn't do what we do successfully without the wonderful hard work and support of each and every one of our volunteers, ie. YOU! We truly can't thank our volunteers enough.
This weekend is the official launch of the Barrie & District Christmas Cheer 2018 campaign and our need this year is to help over 1800 families and 5500 individuals in our communities; Barrie, Angus, Innisfil & Oro-Medonte. In total we will need over 1200 volunteer positions covered before our Christmas deadline to make it all happen.
In the past, we always seem to fall short on the number of positions available compared to the number of you that want to lend a hand. This is always our biggest challenge. Our hope is to find a way to give every one of you an opportunity to volunteer your time and we will continue to find unique ways to add even more spots throughout different areas of the campaign, whether it be local events, warehouse assistance or planning, organizing and clean-up. Having said all of that, we will continue to do our best to give each and every one of you equal opportunity to volunteer; as spot become available.
We're using SignUp.com (the leading online SignUp and reminder tool) to organize our upcoming SignUps. Here's how it works in 3 easy steps:
* Please Note: SignUp.com does not share your email address with anyone.
Please note prior to signing up that we have a chaperon policy in effect for volunteers between the ages of 10 and 14 years of age. The warehouse is a VERY busy place with lots of people and moving parts all happening at once, so we graciously ask that the minimum age of a volunteer be 10 years or older to ensure that everyone's safety is at the forefront at all times. If anyone who is between the ages of 10-14 wishes to help out; they are most welcome and encouraged to do so. All we ask, is that they be partnered up with an adult. The two of you will then work as one position throughout your shift. This way, the two of you can work together and ensure they stay safe the entire day.
In addition, we would like to let you all know that we do offer guided tours of the warehouse, which are available to anyone of all ages who wishes to stop by. This could be a great way to expose the younger ones to charity and let them witness how the community comes together for this amazing initiative. Tours are available from the 15th to the 20th of December.
Parking Notice: On-site parking is very limited and not guaranteed. For the best experience, please arranged to be dropped off or carpool with fellow volunteers.
